    Applying for a Kenyan passport is a straightforward process that has been digitized through the eCitizen platform. Whether you’re applying for the first time, renewing an expired passport, or replacing a lost one, understanding the steps and requirements can save you time and ensure a hassle-free experience.

    This guide provides a step-by-step breakdown of the application process, from registering on eCitizen to collecting your passport.

    Types of Passports in Kenya

    Before applying, it’s essential to determine the type of passport you need. The Kenyan government offers several types of passports, each serving a specific purpose:

    1. •Ordinary Passport: For general travel purposes.
    2. •Diplomatic Passport: Issued to government officials on diplomatic assignments.
    3. •Official Passport: For government officials traveling on official duties.
    4. •Temporary Passport: For one-time travel, usually within East Africa.
    5. •East African Community (EAC) Passport: Allows travel within EAC member states.

    Requirements for a Kenyan Passport

    To apply for a Kenyan passport, you’ll need the following documents:

    • •Original National ID Card and a copy.
    • •Birth Certificate and a copy.
    • •Parents’ National ID Cards (copies).
    • •Three passport-sized photos with a white background.
    • •Duly filled application form from the eCitizen portal.
    • •Payment confirmation receipt from the eCitizen platform.
    • •Any supporting documents specific to your passport type (e.g., marriage certificate, affidavit).

    How to Apply for a Kenyan Passport

    Step 1: Register on eCitizen

    1. •Visit the eCitizen portal.
    2. •Create an account by providing your email address, phone number, and National ID number.
    3. •Verify your account through the confirmation link sent to your email.

    Step 2: Login and Select Passport Application

    1. •Log in to your eCitizen account.
    2. •Navigate to the Department of Immigration Services section.
    3. •Click on Apply for a Passport.

    Step 3: Fill in the Application Form

    1. •Choose the type of passport you wish to apply for (Ordinary, Diplomatic, etc.).
    2. •Provide your details, including:
      • •Full name as it appears on your ID.
      • •Date of birth.
      • •Parents’ details.
      • •Address and contact information.
    3. •Upload scanned copies of the required documents (National ID, birth certificate, etc.)

    Step 4: Pay the Application Fee

    The passport application fee depends on the type of passport you’re applying for:

    • •32 Pages (5 years validity): Ksh 4,550.
    • •48 Pages (10 years validity): Ksh 6,050.
    • •64 Pages (10 years validity): Ksh 7,550.
    • •Diplomatic Passport: Ksh 7,550.
    • •Temporary Passport: Ksh 750.

    Make the payment through:

    Mobile money services like M-Pesa, Debi,t or credit card, and Bank transfers.

    After payment, download and print the payment receipt.

    Step 6: Attend the Appointment

    1. •Visit the immigration office on your scheduled date.
    2. •Bring your application form, original documents, and payment receipt.
    3. •Complete the biometric capture process, including fingerprinting and photo capture.

    Step 7: Track Your Application

    You can track the progress of your passport application through the eCitizen portal. The status updates will indicate when your passport is ready for collection.
