Kenya’s earnings from horticulture exports between January and October 2020 rose 8.6% to KSh126 billion, ccasioned by high demand from Europe.
Fruits export earnings rose to KSh17 billion from KSh11 billion, while flower export earnings hit KSh89.6 billion compared to KSh83.7 for the same period last year. Vegetable earnings fell to KSh19 billion from KSh21 billion.
However, the volume of horticulture exports fell by 6% to hit 263 million kilograms compared to 279 million kilograms for the same period in 2019
In Q1 2020, the value of Kenya’s total exports grew by 5.3% to KSh144.9 billion from KSh137.6 billion in Q1 2019. The rise was as a result of an increase in tea exports, titanium ores and concentrates and essential oils, which grew by 8.8%, 75.4%, and 31.4% respectively, as compared to the previous quarter.
Tea and horticulture accounted for the majority of the domestic exports, hitting KSh34.1 billion and KSh35.3 billion, respectively.
