Harambee Savings and Credit Co-operative Society(SACCO) has launched a VISA branded Debit Card in collaboration with Co-operative Bank of Kenya.
Members of the SACCO can now apply for and instantly receive a Visa Debit card and immediately start using the card to transact in the usual way at any Visa-branded outlet including ATMs, Coop Bank Kenya Agents or to shop at Visa-branded outlets and online stores.
The giant Harambee SACCO, is considered the 4th largest deposit-taking SACCO in Kenya, in terms of balance sheet size, with total assets worth more than KSh 26.3 billion.
The SACCO has been on a stringent cost-cutting regime and has set its sights on customer focus, technology, staff empowerment, growth of non-funded revenue and disposal of idle assets, to set the Society back on a growth path.
A depressed property market has forced Harambee SACCO to defer the sale of some of its Sh1.7 billion land and developed properties.
Chief executive George Onchiri said the sale has been deferred to a time when the property market will regain its robustness.
The SACCO has land in Kisumu, Siaya (10 acres), and Nanyuki’s five acres that it plans to put under houses for sale to members.
It also has prime properties in Westlands and developed units in Limuru. Other properties include the Harambee Sacco Plaza in Nairobi as well as developed units in Mombasa and Kisumu.
Co-operative Bank, through Co-op Consultancy & Insurance Agency (K) Limited (CCIA) provides consulting and advisory services as well as capacity building to Co-operatives.
The main role of the subsidiary is to enhance the institutional capacities of co-operative societies, who are the core stakeholders of the bank.
