The county governments of Machakos, Makueni and Kajiado are in the process of creating guidelines and standards for regulation of land use and general development within the Konza technopolis.
As a result, the three county governments have suspended the issuance of new development permits for projects falling within the 10 kilometer radius around the Konza Technopolis for a period of 90 days.
Speaking at a recent meeting, the Cabinet Secretary Ministry of Interior and Coordination of National Government, Dr. Fred Matiangí emphasized the need for the county governments of Machakos, Makueni and Kajiado to work together in protecting the ecosystem around Konza Technopolis.
“The plan will provide basic guidelines and standards for regulation of land use practices and general development while controlling activities for the respective counties bordering the Technopolis. It will also guide developers and property owners on acceptable standards,” read a joint statement from the three counties.
The 3 counties have formed an Inter-County Joint Physical and Land Use Planning Committee comprised of the respective County Executive Committee Members responsible for physical and land use planning matters and representatives from government ministries and agencies.
Issuance of development permits in the Konza area is set to resume on 1st July 2021.
