The Kenyan Government has imposed a 30 day ban on international events and meetings in efforts towards containing the coronavirus threat. The ban takes effect today, March 6, 2020.
Speaking to members of the fourth estate, Health CS Mutahi Kagwe said the ban will apply to meetings that involve people travelling from Europe, the Middle East, and other affected areas.
Further, Mutahi revealed plans to roll out mass sensitization campaigns on coronavirus via text messages on a toll-free Safaricom line.
The government also lifted the ban on flights from Italy, abeit temporarily, to allow for the evacuation of Italian nationals. The Italians had been locked in following a flight ban imposed last week to Verona, Northern Italy, and Milan.
Government officials have had to halt their visits to affected countries except in instances where such visits are unavoidable.
