Global tech firm, Google, is rolling out a one year offer of free access to its premium artificial intelligence tools for university students in Kenya, as part of a broader education initiative spanning six African countries.
- •The program gives eligible Kenyan students access to Gemini 2.5 Pro, Google’s most advanced AI model, and a suite of tools aimed at supercharging academic research, writing, and creative work.
- •Each student will also receive 2 terabytes of cloud storage across Google Drive, Gmail, and Photos.
- •The student plan also features Deep Research, which can generate comprehensive, cited reports from hundreds of web sources in minutes, and NotebookLM for organizing notes and connecting ideas.
“By providing students with access to our most advanced AI tools, we want to empower them to not only excel in their studies but also to become critical builders and shapers of the future. This offer is about democratizing access to technology and giving African students the skills to compete and lead on a global stage,” said Alex Okosi, Managing Director for Google in Sub-Saharan Africa.
It also includes Veo 3, a tool that transforms text prompts or images into short, high-quality videos for presentations and projects.
The offer is open to students aged 18 and above at accredited Kenyan universities. They can verify their status through Google’s student portal to activate the free plan. The redemption window runs until December 9, 2025.
Alongside Kenya, the offer extends to Ghana, Nigeria, Rwanda, South Africa, and Zimbabwe. It marks Google’s latest push to strengthen Africa’s digital talent pipeline through direct access to its most powerful AI infrastructure.
