Glovo Kenya has appointed Priscilla Muhiu as the General Manager. Priscilla took over the position from William Benthall in July, who is now the new General Manager for Sub-Saharan Africa.
Speaking on her appointment, Priscilla said “I am delighted to be taking over from William… I’m looking forward to continuing the good work that we have done here with Glovo, in a market that is very vibrant and full of promising prospects.”
As the new General Manager, Priscilla will lead strategy, coordinating the subsidiary’s business plan to achieve the overall objective of the Glovo Kenya. She will be in charge of developing Kenya’s business plan and identifying and exploring new growth opportunities.
Before her appointment, she was the company’s Head of Marketing for Africa, successfully launching the brand in Kenya and Ivory Coast. She was also the Head of Marketing at Sendy, spearheading the development of new markets through consumer insights, financial data and analytics. Priscilla Muhiu also led marketing and development in East Africa for OLX for over six years.
Priscilla has a wealth of industry knowledge when it comes to growth hacking, market strategy development and business modelling. She is also very passionate about solving problems in Africa through the use of innovative technologies
Glovo Kenya Records Surge in Digital Payments
Priscilla takes leadership of the company at a time when the delivery business is growing thanks to a change in consumer behaviour driven by the pandemic. Glovo Kenya recently reported an increase in delivery, which rose by 30%. The growth includes a surge in demand for cleaning agents and hygiene products, whose uptake rose by 25% and a shift towards mobile and cashless payments.
The Star reports that cashless payments on the delivery platform grew by 50% whereas mobile payments increased by 14%.
Priscilla believes that the shift to delivery services will outlive the pandemic because of increased consumption of digital services.
“With the increased consumption of digital services worldwide, we will continue to see a sustained momentum of Kenyans still embracing online delivery services and other e-commerce platforms going forward even as the economy now reopens,” Priscilla says.
