The price of gold surged to a fresh record high in Monday’s morning trading session, topping $1,944.80 per ounce for the first time. Demand for the safe-haven asset was driven by investors worry over the rising number of COVID-19 cases globally amid the geopolitical tensions between China and the US.
Earlier on Sunday, biotechnology company Moderna Inc. announced it had received $472 million from the US government to be used for the development of a coronavirus vaccine. The company’s coronavirus vaccine is moving to extensive clinical trials after showing the desired immune response. Its next phase of the trials involving 30,000 people will start today on Monday, July 27 2020.
