Ghana will resume international travel on September 1 after closing its skies since March. The country will require entrants to present a negative test for -COVID-19, taken in the past 72 hours.
“Fellow Ghanaians, I am glad to announce that Kotoka International Airport will reopen and resume operations from Tuesday, September 1 2020. This decision has been communicated to international airlines,” said President Nana Akufo-Addo in a broadcast on Sunday.
Visitors will take a PCR test from over 70 booths set up in the arrivals section in Kotoka International Airport with results being ready in 30 minutes. Arriving passengers will pay for the PCR test.
President Nana Akufo-Addo said that the country will still restrict international travel via land and sea.
Primary and pre-school students will have to wait until January to resume learning. However, some secondary schools will resume on October 5. Universities in the country resume classes on August 24.
“…the decision has been taken by the Ghana Education Service, after consultation with the relevant stakeholders, for SHS 2 and JHS 2 students to return to school from October 5 to December 14, 2020, to complete their academic year.”
The government will supply schools with reusable masks, liquid soap, thermometer guns and sanitizers to prepare them to resume normal activities.
The president will announce measures on the resumption of contact sports like football in the next few weeks. Meanwhile, the country will still keep its pubs, cinemas, and nightclubs closed.
