German Pump Manufacturer Wilo Group Opens Assembly Plant In Nairobi

Wilo Group, a German manufacturer of pumps and pump system has re-energised its operations in Kenya with the launch of an assembly plant in Nairobi.

The company sees opportunity in high rise buildings coming up in different parts of the country and government’s affordable housing project. Notable projects the company has worked on since establishing subsidiary in Nairobi five years ago include Central Bank of Kenya Towers, Imaara Mall and BBS Mall -the largest mall in East Africa.

Through the new plant, Belete Matebe- Managing Director Wilo East Africa said they will also export some of the products to different parts of East Africa.

“We would not be able to make any significant contribution to sustainable development if we continued to offer solutions the same way in the region. This facility gives us strength to offer several Wilo solutions locally, and in addition to having the capacity to offer witness testing locally according to the International Organization for Standardization,” he said.

“We will also create more opportunities for the youth in the region through jobs, certified trainings, and seminars,” Belete Matebe said.

Wilo East Africa will house a training centre within the assembly plant in partnership with the Wilo Academy to offer trainings, seminars and workshops to industry line practitioners and students. He disclosed that Wilo East Africa and Kenya Water Institute (KEWI) are in discussion to create special certified programmes for students on pump selection and digitalization, as well as tailor made school competitions to motivate learners to adopt innovation within the water sector.

“Wilo is therefore now ready to assemble booster sets, end suction pumps, firefighting pumps, control panels and borehole pumps amongst other applications, while exporting from Nairobi to other neighboring countries.”

Through this advancement the multinational technology company will also be able to tailor make solutions in Water and Sanitation (WASH) such as water kiosks, mini cubes, aqua cubes, water kiosks and the Portable Aqua Unit for Lifesaving (PAUL) backpack for communities that lack access to clean drinking water.

Wilo East Africa has other reference projects especially in Ethiopia, Rwanda, Tanzania, Uganda and Sudan for all the various applications.
