Kenya Airways (KQ) has reinstated the position of Chief Operating Officer (COO), which was abolished almost three years ago, and has appointed Captain George Kamal as the new COO starting from March 14.
He will, therefore, be involved in coordinating activities in various departments, including flight operations, technical services, ground services, integrated operational control centre and supply chain. Please join me in welcoming George to the KQ family and wishing him all the best in this critical assignment.
KQ Managing Director – Allan Kilavuka – Qouted by Business Daily
Mr Kamal assumes the role of COO, which was last held by Jan de Vegt, who departed the airline in 2019 due to a lack of support.
Cap George Kamal previously held the position of Operations Director at Air Arabia and also served as the COO of Iraqi Airways.
Starting off as a first officer and captain at Egypt Air, Cap Kamal launched his aviation career before later transitioning to Etihad Airways, where he worked as a captain and type rating instructor.
Mr Kamal holds a master’s degree in Aviation Management Transformation in the New Digital Decade, which he obtained from London Metropolitan University.
