Women have for too long been an afterthought for employment in the global financial industry. In recent decades, the industry has been shifting, albeit slowly, towards being more inclusive across the board.
This is why Kenya’s Fund Managers Association (FMA) and TDB Bank are teaming up to host their first ever Charity Golf Tournament, “building a brighter, more inclusive future for the fund management industry,” stated FMA CEO, Fred Mburu at a press conference launching the tournament.
- This inaugural golf tournament will be hosted at Karen Country Club on Friday, December 6th, 2024and all are encouraged to sign-up to support scholarships for underprivileged women seeking financial certifications through KASNEB.
- Over 200 golfers are set to take part in the tournament while FMA leadership alluded to a surprise visit by a notable Kenyan golfing legend.
- The tournament has already raised several thousand dollars including through the sale of tee time passes and a $10,000 sponsorship by TDB Bank.
According to a study by Warwick Business School at The University of Warwick, women were found to be on average better investors than their male counterparts. Women outperformed men by 1.8%, typically investing with a more long-term point-of-view while men were found to opt for more speculative investments.
At a press conference at Karen Country Club on Saturday, November 23rd, 2024, TDB Bank and the Fund Managers Association launched their partnership. TDB Group President & Managing Director Admassu Tadesse reiterated the significance of such initiatives to ensure gender parity in the finance industry.
Kenya’s Fund Managers Association is the perfect organization to host such an event, having a membership that represents over KSh 2 Trillion in assets under management across Kenya, South Sudan, Uganda, and Tanzania.
The Fund Managers Association was founded over 15 years ago and serves as the umbrella body across the financial services industry, representing all fund managers particularly within the pensions, insurance, and unit trust spaces. The association fosters integrity and good governance amongst players in Kenya’s financial industry, protecting investors from fraud and abuse, while also protecting the public’s trust in the sector.
