Konnect Africa, the subsidiary of the French group Eutelsat specialised in the provision of internet via satellite, has officially announced the launch of its activities in Kenya and sixteen other African countries; Benin, Burundi, Cameroon, Lesotho, DRC Congo, Ghana, Ivory Coast, Nigeria,Republic of Congo, Rwanda, Senegal, South Africa, Swaziland, Tanzania, Togo and Uganda.
The company will deploy Wi-Fi access points and “Pay as you go” offers in the country in partnership with Bentley Walker, a satellite broadband Internet supplier and reseller of Satellite Internet equipment.
Konnect Africa enters the Kenyan that is dominated by Kenyan Telcos including Safaricom, Airtel, Wananchi Group among others. However, Konnect Africa will be unique because it provides internet via satellite equipment, enabling it to cover remote areas where the other operators are not particularly interested.
Eutelsat said in a statement, “Konnect Africa aims to become one of the leading suppliers of new-generation services, working in close partnership with African partners to promote high-quality broadband at affordable prices for homes and businesses, and contributing to reducing the digital divide on the continent.”
