Former NSE Chair Eddy Njoroge Elected ISO President

The Former Chairman of Nairobi Securities Exchange Eddy Njoroge has been elected as the President of the International Organisation for Standardisation (ISO).

“I am well aware that the ISO President represents all members and am fully committed to the tenet of inclusivity.” Said Mr Eddy during his maiden speech.

Mr Njoroge is an accomplished business leader who has served a number of companies including CEO Kenya Electricity Generation Company (KenGen) where he was instrumental in getting the organization to be ISO certified – ISO 9001 Certified in 2004 and ISO 14001 in 2009.

He becomes the first African to be elected president of the standard-setting body composed of representatives from various national standards organizations. He is also the first candidate from a developing country in ISO’s nearly 70 years of existence.

In July this year, the Kenya National Bureau of Standards (Kebs) nominated Mr Njoroge as a candidate to the position of ISO President, a post that falls vacant next year. Kenya nominated Njoroge for the position of the ISO presidency and the Kenya Bureau of Standards received communication from the global body indicating that former Nairobi Securities Exchange boss was the only candidate for the position.
