The government has headed to the calls of open skies policy in boosting local tourism activities across the country.
Under the grand plan, President William Ruto said the government has allowed Fly Dubai’s direct flight to Mombasa four times in a week, the Ethiopian Airline will also have its airplanes flying directly to the coastal city each week.
“We have approved Fly Dubai to Fly in Mombasa four days a week as it brings in tourists, we have also approved Ethiopian Airline as part of the wider plan to boost tourism numbers in the coastal region,” he said.
Meanwhile, Ruto has called for urgent reforms at the port of Mombasa in order to make the facility be globally competitive.
He said reforms at the port are crucial for the country’s prosperity.
“The productivity of this Port is directly linked to the state of our economy, improving efficiency will help us create jobs, boost export volumes and stimulate economic growth,” he said.
The President was speaking during the Port Reforms Working Group Consultative Forum at the Berth 22 of the Port of Mombasa.
The President also launched the Toyota Fortuner Assembly Line, a US $120 million vehicle Assembly plant.
