Flutterwave Partners with PayPal to Allow African Merchants to Make and Receive Global Payments

Flutterwave has partnered with PayPal to allow PayPal customers globally to pay African merchants through its platform. The announcement comes only a few days after the startup announced a $170 million Series C funding, which pushed its valuation past the $1 billion marks.

The partnership will allow business and freelancers in the continent to connect with up to 377 million PayPal account holders globally, overcoming challenges presented by the highly fragmented and complex payment and banking infrastructure in Africa.

According to Flutterwave Founder and CEO Olugbenga ‘GB’ Agboola, the partnership will enable Flutterwave customers to explore new markets where PayPal is embedded and reinforce its vision of creating a seamless digital payment system for African businesses.

By working with PayPal, we can further strengthen our commitment to our customers and service users as we will be enabling them to transact and expand their business operations to reach new markets. PayPal’s global reach is unrivalled and collaborating with them allows our customers to explore new markets where PayPal is embedded.

Merchants in the continent can add PayPal as a payment option to receive money from clients outside the continent. On the other hand, customers can use the “Pay with PayPal” option on the merchants’ checkout page to make payments to African businesses.
