Ethiopia’s Prime Minister Dr Abiy Ahmed will on Wednesday 9th December 2020 join President Uhuru Kenyatta in Marsabit County to officially open the Moyale One-Stop Border Post that connects Kenya to Ethiopia. The opening of the one-stop border post is expected to increase trade and tax revenue collection for Ethiopia and Kenya.
Additionally, the one-stop border and the completion of the Hawassa-Moyale road project will lower the cost of transporting goods between Kenya and Ethiopia.
Prime Minister Abiy and President Uhuru Kenyatta will also visit Lamu county where they will inspect the Lamu port which is under construction. The Lamu port is part of the (LAPSSET) Lamu Port-South Sudan-Ethiopia-Transport Corridor, launched in March 2012. The transport corridor is a joint project of the three nations. It is expected to connect Kenya’s Lamu port to Ethiopia and South Sudan and improve trade in the region.
