Esther Masese Waititu Appointed as Chief Financial Services Officer

Safaricom has appointed Esther Masese Waititu as the chief financial services officer, effective 21st February 2023.

Esther takes over the role from Boniface Mungania, who succeeded Sitoyo Lopokoiyit- currently the Managing Director for M-PESA Africa.

In her new role, Esther Masese Waititu will provide strategic guidance and oversee the management of financial services departments and groups to develop financial products, services, and solutions for both consumers and businesses.

Esther Masese Waititu has over 15 years of experience in the financial services sector, joining Safaricom from KCB Bank Group, where she served as Director of Corporate Banking since 2021.

Before KCB, Esther had a decade-long tenure at Stanbic Bank, where she held various positions, including Regional Product Head, Executive of Strategy Development and Enablement, and Country Head of Client Coverage at Stanbic Bank Zambia.

She also worked at Standard Chartered Bank for five years, between 2006 and 2011, in Relationship Management and Product Management capacities, and at Commercial Bank of Africa (which merged with NIC Bank to form NCBA), where she began her banking career.

Esther holds a Bachelor of Business Administration degree from the University of East Africa, Baraton and a Master of Business Administration from the University of Liverpool, UK. Additionally, she is an AoEC Accredited Executive Coach.

However, the approval is subject to regulatory approval.
