Equity Group CEO Urges for New World Order

Equity Group CEO Dr James Mwangi has said the current world economic and social order is unsustainable and does not inspire trust between businesses and their host communities.

Dr Mwangi made these while giving a keynote speech during the Commonwealth Heads of States and Governments Business Forum in Kigali, Rwanda.

He said the Covid-19 pandemic had severely tested the present world social and economic order, which was set at the end of the second world war in 1945.

This Commonwealth meeting is being organized by the Rwanda Government in partnership with Commonwealth Enterprise and Investment Council (CWEIC).

Equity Group CEO said the pandemic has exposed the soft underbelly of the world’s economy

Equity Group CEO Dr Mwangi said since the outbreak of COVID-19, theories upon which the world was built had been put under severe test, including economies of scale, competitiveness and globalization.

He said there is a need for a global reset, new leadership and vision, equal opportunities and equality in society.

At least 40 Heads of Government from Europe, America, Asia, Africa, the Caribbean and the Pacific are meeting in Kigali to discuss this year’s theme: “Delivering a Common Future: Connecting, Innovating, Transforming.

While the economic meltdown due to the pandemic in 20202 caused a considerable downturn in the world economy and exposed its soft underbelly, the Commonwealth is positioning to use its political, cultural and economic links for a global economic recovery.

This is the first and largest in-person gathering for Governments and Businesses across the Commonwealth since the onset of the pandemic in 2020.

Th commonwealth business forum 2022 experience has been designed to provide different ways to create meaningful connections, exchange knowledge, contribute to impactful dialogue and consume information.

The Commonwealth conference began officially on Monday, 20th June 2022 and will run till Friday, 24th June 2022.
