    Equity Group Appoints Christopher Newson as New Executive Director

    Equity Group has appointed career banker Christopher Newson as a non-executive director. as a non-executive director. Newson, currently the non-executive chairperson of Distell International Holdings Limited and the Non-Executive Director of Bayport Management Limited brings a wealth of experience in banking, relationship management, and business expansion among other skills.

    Current Board Chairperson Isaac Macharia says Christopher Newson will be usegull in the bank group’s regional strategic oversight.

    “He has vast experience in senior leadership, management and Board level governance, relationship management, integration and business expansion experience in financial services, risk and governance disciplines and diverse business maturities. His willingness to seek new challenges, resilience, energy, intellect and desire to make a difference make him a great fit for the Group,” said Professor Macharia.

    Christopher Newson Experience

    Christopher, has over 29 years in investment, commercial banking and Alternative Asset management.In the past 24 years, Christopher has held various top level leadership positions. He spent the last 9 years at chief executive level and Standard Bank Group, serving as CEO at Standard Bank of Africa and Stanbic IBTC in Nigeria. He was also a member of boards, including Stanbic Holdings Limited, Stanbic Bank Kenya Limited Board, Stanbic Ghana, and Standard Bank Mauritius. Recently Christopher was the Director for Private Markets at Investec Asset Management, now Ninety one Asset management and a Senior Advisor at Many Waters Capital.

    Newson holds a Bachelor of Commerce Degree and a Master’s Degree in Accounting and Finance from University of Cape Town. He is also a Chartered Accoiuntant of South Africa.
