Equity Bank’s Jack Ngare moves to Microsoft

Jack Ngare, the head Equity Bank’s Finserve platform has been appointed to lead Microsoft’s Africa Development Centre (ADC), a research and development facility based in Nairobi.

Jack is the current Managing Director of Finserve, the Equity Bank-owned fintech company that runs equitel and eazzy loan. Previously, he served as the Technology and Innovations MD at Equity Group for four years. The tech executive has also worked for big companies like the British Telecom, Stanbic Bank, and NIC Bank. He is highly skilled in different specialties such as emerging technology, financial services, telecommunications and management.

Jack holds two Masters degrees, one in management from Harvard University and another in Advanced Computer Science from the University of Leicester. Additionally, he has a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science from the University of Leicester.

In his new role as the first Managing Director of the Africa Development Centre, he will lead his team in expanding Microsoft’s reach in the African continent.

Ngare revealed his excitement about the new role saying, “This is such an incredible opportunity, to join an organisation that is truly empowering people globally, and in Africa, to achieve more. I can’t wait to start my new journey as managing director and proud to lead such a talented team in Nairobi.”

Ngare’s exit closely follows the announcement of another exit by a senior official at the bank, Polycarp Igathe. Igathe who is the MD at Equity Bank Kenya is set to leave at the end of August to take up a new role at Vivo Energy.

Equity Bank earlier in the year partnered with Safaricom to provide mobile network services. Some observers question whether Finserve will continue running given Equity’s partnership with Safaricom and the exit of its MD Jack Ngare.
