EPRA New Tariffs to Favour Manufacturers

The Energy and Petroleum Regulation Authority (EPRA) has introduced new electricity tariffs, that are set to be a huge relief for manufacturers.

As Citizen reports, the new tariffs will enable commercial and industrial consumers, who are billed at 220,000 volts per post-paid billing period to pay KSh7.99 for every unit consumed. Furthermore, any consumption they make outside the peak hours will be charged KSh3.99 less per unit.

This, however, is not the first time the billing is being regulated to encourage manufacturing in the country. In August last year, a 30% power rebates law was gazetted, that saw manufacturers get a 30% tax relief on their electricity expenses, on condition that factories increased their energy consumption, raised their capital investment and sales, all by a margin of 10%.
