The Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority (EPRA) has appointed Daniel Kiptoo as the acting Director General of the organization to take over from Pavel Oimeke. EPRA suspended its director-general, Pavel Oimeke, after his arrest last week due to accusations of bribery.
Mr Oimeke is accused of demanding a KSh 200,000 bribe to reopen a petrol station in Homa bay county. The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission is currently investigating the allegations.
Daniel Kiptoo will now serve as the head of the Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority in an acting capacity. Prior to his appointment, Mr Kiptoo worked as the Legal Advisor to the Ministry of Energy and State Department of Petroleum. He is also the Chair of the First Oil Committee.
Mr Kiptoo is highly experienced in the Energy and Petroleum Industry, particularly in Policy formulation, Regulation and Project and Structured Finance. He played an important role in drafting the Petroleum Act (2019) and the Energy Act (2019).
The acting director general has a Bachelor of Laws degree from the University of Nairobi and a Masters Degree in Petroleum Law and Policy from the University of Dundee Scotland. In addition, he is an Advocate of the High Court of Kenya, a Certified Public Secretary, and a member of the Institute of Chartered Secretaries and Administrators in the UK.
