Elon Musk’s is planning to slash Twitter’s staff by nearly 75% in a matter of months.
Musk, whose $44 billion purchase of the social network is set to close by Oct. 28, would reduce Twitter’s staff to just more than 2,000 people, compared with the 7,500 it currently employs.
The Tesla Inc. CEO earlier this month said he would follow through with his agreement to take Twitter private, ending a months-long court battle over the deal.
Twitter’s current management had initially planned to trim the company’s payroll by about $800 million by the end of next year, a number that would mean the departure of nearly a quarter of the workforce.
The company also planned to make major cuts to its infrastructure, including data centres.
Nevertheless, Twitter maintains that there are no plans for company-wide layoffs since it signed a deal to be acquired by billionaire Elon Musk.
