Electronics accounted for 25% of all items sold on OLX in 2016, with 330,000 items listed for sale over the same period, the company has announced.
According to OLX Kenya, the platform was mainly used by SMEs with rising number of businessmen within Nairobi’s Central Business District(CBD).
In 2016, there were over 1.285 million items listed for sale with over 100,000 users selling on the platform. Among the categories that contributed to the items on sale were electronics at 25.7%, followed by vehicles at 18.7%, mobile phones at 11.6% and real estate at 7.9%.
The company also noted that the average cost of real estate items on the platform in 2016 stood at Ksh 24 million. A 3000-acre piece of coffee plantation in Kiambu went for Ksh. 12 billion last year.
Unique items for sale
The company also noted that the platform saw Kenyans sell unique items including an helicopter which was up for grabs at Ksh. 95 million, while a five-star hotel at a cost of Ksh. 3 billion last year. There was also drone for sale at a cost of ksh 190,000.
