EasyJet to Resume Flights by August

Europe’s second-biggest low-cost airline, EasyJet, has announced plans to resume flights across most of its European routes by August this year, with holiday flights from all its U.K. airports in July and August.

The Guardian reports that the airline will be flying half of its 1,022 routes in July, and 75% in August, amounting to just under a third of its normal peak season capacity.

Last month, the airline announced plans to resume flights on 15th June 2020, mainly within Britain and France, albeit on a handful of routes. The airline plans to reduce its fleet size, adding that levels of market demand seen in 2019 may not likely be reached until 2023.

All passengers and crew will be required to wear masks throughout the flights, in addition to there being no onboard food or shopping services.

The announcement comes barely a week after the airline revealed plans to slash its workforce by 30%, which translates to about 4,500 job cuts. The move is aimed at ensuring the airline stays afloat during the global COVID-19 pandemic that has resulted in a dip in the aviation industry revenues.

EasyJet plc is listed on the London Stock Exchange, and is also a constituent of the FTSE 100 Index. It employs nearly 15,000 people throughout Europe but mainly in the U.K.

On 30th March 2020, the airline grounded its entire fleet due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
