EAC Experiments with Collective Marketing as it Targets 11 Million Tourists

The East African Community (EAC) will, for the first time, participate as an entity at the International Tourism Bourse (ITB) – Berlin, the world’s largest tourism trade fair, from 4th – 6th March, 2025.

    • •The EAC is aiming to attract over 11 million tourists by the end of 2027 from 8.5 million international tourists in 2024, compared to pre-COVID arrival levels of 7.7 million.
    • •Participation at ITB Berlin will also serve as a platform to promote East Africa’s multi-destination tourism offerings and cross-border experiences.
    • •The EAC Treaty provides for partner states to develop a collective and coordinated approach to the promotion and marketing of quality tourism into and within the Community.

“Under the banner of ‘Visit East Africa: Feel the Vibe,’ we are not only showcasing the unparalleled beauty and cultural richness of our region but also reinforcing East Africa’s appeal as a seamless, multi-destination experience,” Chairman of the East Africa Tourism Platform, Fred Odek Odhiambo stated.

“We look forward to forging meaningful partnerships that will drive sustainable tourism growth and investment across the region,” he added.

The EAC Secretary General, Veronica Nduva observes that “this is part of the EAC’s efforts to position the region as a leading global tourism destination. The bloc aims to attract international tourists and investors by highlighting the region’s rich cultural heritage, natural beauty, and unique attractions.”

The EAC hopes to attract tourists to a region with a wide range of experiences including vibrant cities, hospitable people, and diverse communities . It is home to some of the most iconic wildlife, including the traditional Big Five, with the highest population of lions in the world. Mount Kilimanjaro, the highest peak in Africa, continues to draw adventurers from around the world, while the Great Migration, a natural wonder shared between Kenya and Tanzania, remains a major highlight for visitors.
