Nairobi Securities Exchange listed Paint manufacturer Crown Paints (Symbol; BERG) has invested Sh200 million to boost production in its plants across the East African Market.

According to Smart Company, Crown Paint’s four factories in Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania will receive major facelift and technological upgrades to meet growing demand.

Chief executive Rakesh Rao was quoted, “In Kenya where we have our biggest plant, we will continue to improve technology to meet the increasing demand for premium paints as the growing middle class translates to lifestyle changes and tastes. In Uganda and Tanzania, economy brands are the main demands and we have the satellite brands there to cut on transport costs, which is working well for us,” he said.

About Sh100 million will be used to modernise the Kenyan plant in Nairobi’s industrial area. The firm last year opened a Sh400 million Kisumu factory to meet demand in the lake region and parts of Tanzania.

The Kisumu plant, which has a production capacity of up to 3.5 million litres a month, is expected to hit its peak production in the next two years.
