Construction of KSh6.9 Billion Naivasha Dry Port Starts

Construction of the KSh 6.9 billion Naivasha Dry Port has started. The government projects that the port will be ready for use by the end of December this year.

Speaking during a tour of the construction site, Naivasha Sub-county Commissioner, Mathioya Mbogo, said the road linking the port to the Standard Gauge Railway (SGR) is nearly complete.

Additionally, the fencing of the 1,000 acres was also complete while electricity connection had been finalised.

Works on the port are at an advanced stage. Many of our local youth have been employed at this site. We expect the Inland Container Depot to be ready by the end of this year

He further stated that the first batch of 51 families, which have been displaced by the construction, will be resettled starting this week.

President Uhuru Kenyatta officially launched the Naivasha dry port last month.

In September this year, the Cabinet approved a KSh 6.9 billion budget for the development of the port in a bid to boost the standard gauge railway operations.

The money will be used to develop an inland container depot, railway marshalling yard, logistics zone and public utility area. It will also fund other core enabling infrastructure to support the development of the Naivasha Special Economic Zone.
