Construction for Konza City HQ set to be complete in November

The construction of KONZA City Headquarters is scheduled for completion on 23rd November, 2018. The Ministry of ICT, The Standing ICT Committees of Council of Governors, National Assembly and Senate have also agreed to form a National ICT Steering Committee.

The National ICT Steering Committee, who’s membership will be drawn from the 3 standing committees will be tasked with providing leadership in; ICT infrastructure roll out across the country, creating employment and wealth through and within the ICT sector and ensuring efficient and transparent delivery of services to Kenyans through use of various ICT channels.

Speaking during a tour of KONZA City by the CS and members of the 3 standing committees, CS Joe Mucheru said that the Ministry is committed in ensuring that ICT becomes the foundation from which the Big 4 are planned, executed, realized, tracked and reported.

“The Ministry must move with speed and set up a National Data Center. This lack of a data center is a big risk for us as a country” says Hon. William K. Kisang National Assembly ICT Chair.

KONZA management added that the tender for construction of Kenya Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST) will be awarded in September and construction to start soon thereafter. KAIST, modeled around South Korea’s Institute of Science and Technology, is expected to be completed by 2021, with the first batch of 200 of 600 graduate students staring classes in 2022.

The parliamentary budget committee had in July has allocated Ksh 400 million for the completion of the project. The Tech city was part of Kenya’s vision 2030 and has since faced delays partly due to lack of funding.
