The Competition Authority of Kenya (CAK) board has appointed David Kibet Kemei as the Director General effective 7th October 2024.
- Kemei’s appointment follows a successful recruitment process which included joint vetting and approval by Parliament.
- Kemei has replaced Adano Rioba, who has been serving in an acting capacity since the end of term for Wang’ombe Kariuki, the first director-general of CAK.
He has over 30 years experience with expertise around corporate and financial management, accounting, project implementation, resource mobilization, collaboration with global agencies, and stakeholder management. He additionally has 15 years experience in leadership.
“Kemei holds a Master’s degree in Business Administration and a Bachelor’s degree in Commerce from the University of Nairobi. He is a qualified public accountant, a Certified Regulation Specialist, and a certified practitioner in executive coaching,” CAK said in a statement to newsrooms on Monday.

“On behalf of the Board, I congratulate Mr. Kemei on his appointment and wish him the best in the role. The Board assures the Director-General and the Authority’s members of staff of our continued support in facilitating successful execution of our mandate,” CAK added.
