COMESA has unveiled the 50 Million African Women Speak Platform (50MAWSP), a project that seeks to address the information needs of women in business in the region.
Consequently, COMESA will start conducting national launches of the digital platform between August and November 2020, virtually, owing to restrictions imposed by the COVID-19 pandemic, with the first scheduled to kick off in Zimbabwe followed by Seychelles on 25th August 2020.
Twelve more launches will take place in Comoros, Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), Djibouti, Eritrea, Eswatini, Ethiopia, Egypt, Madagascar, Malawi, Mauritius, Sudan and Tunisia.
The platform, accessible via www.womenconnect.org, seeks to empower women economically by giving them a one-stop-shop for a wide range of both financial and non-financial services.
The project is implemented by COMESA, in conjunction with the East African Community (EAC) and the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS). It is funded by the African Development Bank (AfDB).
The platform will ensure women in member states of ECOWAS, EAC and COMESA and other African countries find information on how to run businesses, where to access financial services, how to create business opportunities online, and where to access training resources.
