CMA and KEPSA Sign Deal to enable SMEs Access Capital

The Capital Markets Authority (CMA) inked a partnership with the Kenya Private Sector Alliance (KEPSA) to allow small and medium-sized enterprises to access capital market products.

” This will hence ease their burden of getting credible financing for their operations, said Ms Carole Kariuki Karuga, the KEPSA Chief Executive Officer.

The MOU will support market deepening and enable SMEs to access capital market products.

CMA and KEPSA will find avenues for public and private finance and investment to support the country’s growth.

According to CMA Chief Executive Wyckliffe Shamiah, this partnership will enable Small and Medium-Sized Enterprises (SMEs) to use the capital markets to raise long term debt that will assist in the recovery from pandemic effects.

The Authority plans to support small firms wishing to access the capital markets by reviewing its stringent eligibility and disclosure requirements.

KEPSA and the Authority will work on several joint activities, including organizing quarterly fora to engage KEPSA members on capital market products and joint publications and research on financial markets to create financial quick reference materials to be distributed to critical stakeholders.
