Citigroup has appointed Akin Dawodu as head of its Sub-Sahara Africa business.
The group said, “Dawodu will drive Citigroup’s business in the 11 regional countries and 21 non-presence countries in the SSA cluster”.
Sub-Saharan Africa is one of the three sub-clusters in Citigroup’s newly created Europe, Middle East, and Africa (EMEA) unit.
Prior, to his appointment Mr Dawodu served as CEO of Citi’s Nigerian unit. Dawodu has been at Citi since 2000 working as an FX dealer, Country treasurer, and Chief Operations Officer.
In 2015 Dawodu became CEO of Citi Nigeria and in January 2019, he was appointed Cluster Head for West and Central Africa.
In his new role, Dawodu will report to Atiq Rehman, the head of Citi’s EMEA emerging markets unit, New York.
He will continue to serve as the CEO of the Nigerian unit until the appointment of a successor.
