    CIC is Day's Top Mover at NSE as Turnover Declines

    CIC Insurance Group recorded the highest volume of 5.5 Million traded shares, followed by Safaricom (3.3Million), Absa Bank Kenya (3.15Million), Kenya Power & Lighting Company (1.82Million) and Equity Group with 842,000 shares when trading ended at the Nairobi Securities Exchange(NSE) this Monday, July 5th 2021.

    The CIC stock closed the day at KSh 2.60 KES per share, an 8.33% gain over its previous closing price of KSh 2.40.

    The listed underwriter began the year with a share price of KSh 2.13 and has since gained 22.07% on that price valuation, ranking it 7th on the NSE in terms of year-to-date performance.

    This stock’s value has accrued 23.22% over the past four-week period.

    The Co-operative Insurance Company of Kenya Limited (CIC Insurance) was established in 1978 as Co-operative Insurance Services Limited (CIS). In 1999, the firm rebranded to Co-operative Insurance Company of Kenya Limited (CIC Insurance).

    It underwrites both Life and General classes of insurance.


    Sameer Africa led the price gainers with 10% share price appreciation closing at KSh 3.74 per share, followed by CIC Insurance Group, which gained 8.33% to Ksh 2.60, Uchumi Supermarket, whose price also rose 8% to KSh 0.27, Eveready East Africa, which gained 5.26% on its price to KSh 1.00 and Nairobi Business Ventures, whose price was up 4.15% to close at KSh 12.55

    On the losing side, East African Portland Cement Co was the worst performer with an end-of-day price depreciation of 10% to KSh 7.20 per share, followed by Nairobi Securities Exchange, whose price fell by 8.48% to KSh 8.20, Crown Paints Kenya, which lost 8.08% on its share price to KSh 33.00 and Sasini Tea and Coffee, whose price declined by 3.48% to KSh 18.05 and TPS Serena which fell 2.14% to KSh 13.70.

    The NSE recorded a decline in turnover when trading ended this Monday, 5th July 2021.

    A total of 17,387,700 shares in 1,048 deals, corresponding to a market value of KSh 330.8 Million, were traded. Compared to the previous trading session of Friday, July 2nd, 2021, there was a 2% decline in volume, 47% decline in turnover, but a 3% improvement in deals today.

    The current market capitalization of the Nairobi Securities Exchange is KSh 2.64 trillion.

    46 NSE listed equities participated in trading in the aggregate, ending with 24 gainers and 13 losers.
