Akshay Grover, who replaced co-founder Ken Njoroge as Cellulant CEO in 2021, is leaving the company, the pan-African payment gateway firm has announced.
- Grover initially joined the firm as Chief Financial Officer in 2021, and was appointed CEO in the same year.
- Co-founder Ken Njoroge had held the position for almost two decades.
- The current CFO, Peter O’Toole, will oversee the organisation’s operations as Acting CEO.
“His efforts have been pivotal in enhancing the Cellulant brand and driving the company’s strategic objectives,” Cellulant said in a Jan 4th statement.
At the time of Grover’s appointment, Cellulant was present in 18 countries in the continent, and was interlinked with over 120 banks and 40 mobile operators.
- Before Cellulant, Grover was the chief investment officer at Ison, an IT services company.
- He’d also worked at Ernst & Young and KPMG.
- Cellulant said Grover had decided “to leave in order to focus on personal matters.”
