French multinational retailer Carrefour Kenya, which has opened two hypermarkets in the country has announced it will open its third outlet in Kenya at Thika Road Mall (TRM) before the end of next month (Nov 2017.)
In a statement, Carrefour said the new store will cover two floors of the complex and is expected to offer more than 30,000 items, including fresh products and groceries, a fresh bakery, home appliances, electronics and general merchandise.
Carrefour will fill the gap left by cash-strapped retailer Nakumatt Supermarkets, which exited the mall in September due to cash flow challenges.
“The new hypermarket at the popular Thika Road Mall will covers 5,000 square metre selling area and will cater for the growing population segment residing in Roysambu & Kasarani area, as well as those travelling along Thika Road, towards Central and parts of Eastern Kenya.” Carrefour said in a statement.
The French hypermarket chain has launched a very ambitious multi-million local plan with the aim to win the largest share of the retail market in the shortest possible time. This comes at a time when a number of local retail chains are facing challenges related to cashflow to governance.
Carrefour entered the local market in May last year when it began operations at the Hub shopping mall in the Karen suburb, Nairobi. In March this year, the chain then opened its second store at the Two Rivers Mall.
