Bitange Ndemo has been named among the most influential people in the digital government. According to a ranking by apolitical, Bitange’s notable contributions to digital transformation in Kenya warrant him top recognition.
The Professor is known for his achievements in his tenure as the PS for Information and communication, where he initiated policies necessary for deepened internet connectivity. Bitange is also an advocate of Blockchain and AI seeking to find ways of applying emerging technologies to business. Furthermore, Ndemo is passionate about social enterprise, focusing on how ICT can contribute to SMEs.

Between 2005 and 2013, Bitange championed the advent of the internet in Kenya. His contributions, such as spearheading the development of undersea cables into East Africa, built a foundation for Kenya’s digital journey. Additionally, he was instrumental in the fast-tracking of the implementation of M-Pesa.
Beyond his input to Kenya’s internet development, the Professor of Entrepreneurship is a senior advisor at iHub and an Advisor at the UN’s Better than Cash Alliance.
Bitange is the only Kenyan on this year’s Apolitical World’s 100 Most Influential People in Digital Government. Other notable Africans on the list include Ghanian President Nana Akufo-Addo, who is a strong advocate for the digitization of Ghana. Nana launched a new national digital ID scheme and a digital property addressing system; some of the most innovative in the region. The list also has Paula Ingabire, Rwanda’s Minister of ICT and Innovation.
Apolitical ranks the World’s 100 Most Influential People in Digital Government based on nominations from expert contributors. Digital experts, academicians, and public servants generate a list of worthy peers. Later, a list of independent experts review and select the final list of the 100.
