Bill Gates Steps Down from Microsoft's Board

Microsoft co-founder, Bill Gates, has stepped down from the company’s board of directors. The 64 year-old founder ceased to be a board member on 13th March 2020.

According to the firm, the move has been necessitated by Gates’ quest to spend more time on philanthropic activities such as global health and development, education and climate change.

However, he will still serve as a technology advisor to current Microsoft CEO, Satya Nadella.

Gates founded Microsoft in 1975 alongside Paul Allen, who died in 2018. In 2000, he gave up the role of CEO. On 27th June 2008, he ceased his day-to-day duties at Microsoft, but continued to serve as the board’s chairman until 4th February 2014.

Since then, he has been a regular board member.

Forbes lists Bill Gates as the world’s second richest man after Amazon founder Jeff Bezos, and is worth $103.6 billion.

Microsoft Corporation is an American multinational technology company with headquarters in Redmond, Washington. It develops, manufactures, licenses, supports, and sells computer software, consumer electronics, personal computers, and related services.
