Benjamin Tayari Appointed as KPA Chairman

The Cabinet Secretary for Roads and Transport, Kipchumba Murkomen, has announced Benjamin Tayari’s appointment as the new Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Kenya Ports Authority (KPA).

In a gazette notice, Roads and Transport Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen appointed Tayari to serve at the state corporation’s helm for three years from January 13, 2023.

The CS also revoked the appointment of Joseph Kibwana, who has held the position since June 2018.

“In exercise of the powers conferred by section 4 (a) of the Kenya Ports Authority Act, as read together with section 51 (1) of the Interpretation and General Provisions Act, the Cabinet Secretary for Roads and Transport appoints — Benjamin Dalu Tayari to be the Chairperson of the Board of Directors of the Kenya Ports Authority, for a period of three (3) years, with effect from the January 13 2023,” the gazette notice dated January 13 reads in part.

Mr Tayari is taking over the chairmanship of KPA at a time that the search for the new managing director enters a critical stage after recruitment ended on Friday.

The parastatal had not had a substantive head since 2020 when Daniel Manduku exited under a cloud of controversy. He had a pending court case.

The successful candidate is expected to manage different KPA ports, including Mombasa, Lamu, Kisumu and Nairobi ports, and the Naivasha Inland Container Depot.
