British American Tobacco has announced changes in its board of directors, appointing Philemon Kipkemoi as an Executive Director in its board. Philemon has been with BAT for 14 years. He is the Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the BAT Kenya Staff Provident Funds and a non-executive director of BAT Uganda. He holds a Bachelor of Technology Degree from Moi University, and an MBA from Oxford Brookes University.

The company has also appointed Andre Willem Joubert and Marion Gathoga-Mwangi as Non-Executive Directors. Andre is the current Area Director for BAT East and Southern Africa. He brings vast experience from tobacco, mining, banking, and audit industries globally.
On the other hand, Mrs. Gathoga-Mwangi, the current MD at BOC Kenya, brings a wealth of experience in manufacturing. She has previous experience serving as the country head in Groupe Lactalis, and Cadbury Kenya, and East Africa Limited. Mrs. Gathogo-Mwangi was also a General manager at Unga Limited and a Trustee at Palmhouse Foundation.
The company’s current Finance Director, Sydney Wafula, will resign as a director and take up an alternate director position on June 25.
BAT’s new board joins at a time of significant changes in the company. BAT Kenya posted a drop in profits to KSh 3.9 Billion down from KSh 4.1 billion in 2018 as a result of new excise duties. The company last week joined the MSCI index, increasing its visibility to institutional investors globally.
