Barclays to Integrate Timiza with WeChat and Alipay

Barclays Bank of Kenya is weighing integrating Alipay and WeChat into its virtual banking platform Timiza. According to an official from the bank, increasing relations between Kenya and China necessitate efficient tools for cross- border transactions.

Barclays Head of Timiza Andrew Mwithiga says they’re keen to enter into strategic partnerships beyond Kenya’s borders which could include partnerships with WeChat and Alipay.

“We are keen to enter into strategic partnerships that transcend banks, telecommunication, and financial technology companies both within inside and outside the country and this may include Wechat Pay and Alipay to improve our customer experience,” said Mwithiga.

At the same time, Barclays is looking to connect the increasing number of small entrepreneurs who import goods directly from China to convenient digital money platforms.
