    Banks Dominate as Turnover at NSE Slides to KSh 439 Million

    Banks Dominate as Turnover at NSE Slides to KSh 439 Million

    There was subdued activity at the Nairobi Securities Exchange(NSE) on Thursday’s trading session, with Market turnover sliding to KSh. 439 Million from the previous session’s KSh. 630 Million.

    The number of shares traded stood at 22 Million against 24 Million posted yesterday.

    The biggest gainer was Kapchorua Tea whose share price rose from KSh 72.00 to KSh 79.00, a 9.72% rise. It was followed by KQ, Umeme, Fahari -I-Reit and Uchumi.

    The losers were led by Sasini whose share price dropped 8.33% from KSh 16.20 to KSh 14.85. Others were Longhorn, Equity, KCB and CIC Insurance.

    The NSE 20 share Index lost 26.26 points or 1.32% to stand at 1970.02 while the All Share Index NASI dropped 3.18 points or 2.31% to stand at 134.19.

    The Banking Sector had shares worth KSh. 248 Million transacted which accounted for 56.60% of the day’s traded value.

    ABSA Bank Kenya was the day’s mover with 11 Million shares valued at KSh. 115 Million traded at between KSh. 10.50 and KSh. 10.80. Equity Group sold shares at a price o KSh. 33.70, with a volume worth KSh. 56.3 Million transacted. KCB Group moved 1 Million shares worth KSh. 36.2 Million, making up the list of the biggest losers in the day, at a reduced price of KSh 35.90.

    In the manufacturing sector, BAT was dominant at KSh. 315.00, moving 165,000 shares valued at KSh.52Million. E.A Breweries traded shares worth KSh.4.1Million in today’s trading session and closed at KSh.165.00.

    Safaricom dropped from this previous main mover at the Nairobi Securities Exchange to trade 4.7 Million shares valued at KSh. 128 Million changing hands at between KSh. 26.90 and KSh. 28.00; this represented 29.29% of the day’s traded value.
