Bank Of Africa Group has announced plans to reduce its branches in Kenya by nearly a third and lay off undisclosed number of employees saying it wants to focus on digital banking.
On Friday, the Bank announced that it will close 12 out of its 42 existing retail branches, subject to approval from the Central Bank of Kenya.
“In the last two years we have seen fewer footfalls in our branches as more and more customers embrace our digital banking options. This has informed the move by the bank to focus on enhancing its digital customer experience. BOAK will now embark on a move to consolidate its branches. This process will see 12 out of its 42 existing retail branches closed” The Bank said in a statement.
“The process will follow guidelines laid down by the Central Bank of Kenya. In the process, some staff redundancies will occur,” said Ronald Marambii, Managing Director at Bank of Africa Kenya.
Some of the affected branches include: Nairobi region: Githurai Branch, Gikomba Branch, Monrovia Branch, Gateway Branch, South B Branch, Outer Ring Road BOA Direct, Likoni Road BOA Direct and Thika Road BOA Direct. Other regions: Nanyuki Branch, Embu Branch, Kitale Branch and the Digo Road Branch in Mombasa.
