Bamburi Cement Plc, a listed Kenyan firm engaged in the manufacture and sale of cement and related products, has announced the appointment of Tito David Koros as a Non-Executive Director of the Company, effective 7th December 2023.
- A non-executive director sits on the board but does not have any executive duties. Non-executive directors normally act as independent advisors and are not responsible for the daily docket in a firm.
- Bamburi has picked Koros, from the NSSF where he is also the current Managing Trustee/Chief Executive Officer.
- Before that, he was the Chief Executive Officer of the Local Authorities Provident Fund (LAPFUND), which handles retirement funds for all county government and water company employees.
Koros has also worked in investment management at Stanbic Investment Management (EA) Services Limited, CFC Financial Services, the Retirement Benefits Authority (RBA), and the Kenya Tourist Development Corporation (KTDC).
Koros has a Master’s degree in Public Policy Management from Strathmore University, a professional certification in Public Policy Management from New York University, and has attended various leadership programs including the Global Leadership Programme from the Gordon Institute of Business Science (GIBS) at the University of Pretoria, and has a Bachelor of Arts in Economics from the University of Nairobi.
A statement from Dr. John P.N Simba, Bamburi Cement Plc Board Chairman said the board is confident in Koros’s financial, investment, people leadership, and organizational change capabilities.
Koros has been appointed to join the Bamburi directorship team following the resignation of Austin A. O. Ouko, a Non-Executive Director of the company, who resigned effective 30 November 2023. Ouko was appointed to the Board on 28 August 2020. Ouko has had previous positions at the National Social Security Fund(NSSF) as acting General Manager (Corporate Affairs/Corporation Secretary).
- Ouko also has over 10 years of experience in transactional, corporate, and commercial law in both public and private companies. He was previously the Manager Legal at NSSF and before that, Senior Legal Officer with The Standard Group Limited.
- He holds a Master of Science of Law (JSM) from Stanford University Law School, a Master of Laws (LL.M) in Public Finance & Financial Services, and a Bachelor of Laws (LL.B) degree, both from the University of Nairobi.
- He is an Advocate of the High Court of Kenya, a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators-UK, a Certified Public Secretary-Kenya, and an accredited Governance Auditor with the Institute of Certified Secretaries, Kenya. Austin served on the Audit & Risk Committee.
