Amazon To Set Up Edge Location in Kenya

Amazon Web Services, the cloud computing arm of US E-Commerce giant Amazon has announced plans to establish a new edge location in Nairobi. The new addition will be Amazon’s third location in Africa in addition to the other two in South African cities Johannesburg and Cape Town.

An Edge location is a collection of physical servers within a data centre to allow for content distribution to reduce latency for end-users. They are located in most of the major cities around the world and the higher the number of edge locations the better the content is distributed globally.

Kenyan President Uhuru Kenyatta also met executives of the company including Teresa Carlson, Vice President, Worldwide Public Sector, Amazon for Amazon Web Services.
