Amazon has announced plans to hire 3000 South Africans this year on a work-from-home policy. The South Africans will virtually provide customer service and technical expert roles to Amazon customers in North America and Europe.
The technical positions will support customer queries on devices, digital, and Alexa. Employees will translate technical information and provide instructions to help Amazon customers to trouble shoot issues.

The new addition brings Amazon’s total workforce in South Africa to 7,000, comprising of permanent and seasonal workers. Amazon’s customer service unit has operated since 2010 with the first Amazon Web Services data centre launched in April 2020 in Cape Town.
Andrew Raichin, director of Amazon Customer Service in South Africa said the COVID-19 pandemic has accelerated digital transition of work.
Amazon requires successful candidates to have a private, quiet workplace, and dedicate internet connection.
Attracting technology giants such as Amazon demonstrates South Africa’s innovative talent, strong ICT infrastructure, and digital capabilities.
