Kenya Airports Authority confirms Alex Gitari as CEO/MD

Kenya Airport Authority Board of Directors has confirmed Alex Gitari as the Authority’s new Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer.

Ms Susan Kiama, on behalf of the Board, said Alex Gitari would be the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of KAA for three years, effective 8th July 2021.

This position has remained vacant for two years now, with Gitari holding fort in an acting capacity since September 2019

Gitari was picked as emerging the best candidate in a tough interview session.

Kiama said Gitari has been effective at KAA in an acting capacity. He is the right pick to drive the Authority forward, primarily through the turbulence created by the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic on the aviation industry.

    Alex Gitari’s Academic Background

Gitari has a Masters’ degree in Business Administration, Finance option from the University of Nairobi and an Advanced Management Program from Harvard Business School. He is also a holder of a Bachelor of Commerce in Accounting degree from the University of Nairobi.

Before his elevation to Acting Managing Director of KAA, Gitari was KAA’s General Manager for Finance.

Gitari takes over as recovery of the aviation sector begins to take momentum.

He is expected to drive growth by embracing innovations and creativity that will deliver key infrastructure projects and further ensure that the flagship airport, JKIA remains the preferred hub in Africa.
