    Albert Mugo Retires, KenGen Names Rebecca Miano as First Female CEO in Its History

    Kenya Electricity Generating Company (Stock; KenGen) has appointed Mrs Rebecca Miano as the Acting Managing Director & Chief Executive Officer following the retirement of Eng. Albert Mugo on Friday 25th August 2017.

    The appointment is a major victory for women in Kenya’s publicly listed companies given that Mrs Miano is the first woman to hold the position since the company was established. Albert Mugo had held the top job since January 15, 2014.

    Mrs Miano was KenGen’s Company Secretary and Legal Affairs Director since 2008. She was responsible for driving the corporate governance agenda in the Company; providing guidance and support to the Board and is the secretary to the Board and all its Committees. In-charge of establishing and enforcing the corporate governance framework of the Company and safeguarding shareholders’ interests.

    Previously, she worked for Kenya Power and Lighting Company when KenGen used to be under the management of KPLC. She has a wealth of expertise on the entire energy sector.

    Before joining the energy sector, she worked in Musyoka Annan & Company Advocates (Nairobi) and Slater and Gordon (Queensland, Australia). She holds a Bachelor of Law Degree (LLB) from University of Nairobi, Diploma in Law (Kenya School of Law) and Post Graduate Studies in Comparative Law (University of Australia). She is a Registered Certified Public Secretary Kenya (CPS –K) with the Registration of Public Secretaries Board.
