Airtel has partnered with WorldRemit to allow its subscribers to receive money from 129 countries across the world, a move aimed at boosting the telco’s efforts to increase its share of the local mobile money market.
Through this partnership, Airtel Money customers will be able to receive funds directly into their wallets and transact through sending or withdrawing money, paying bills or using the Lipa Na Airtel Money options, globally.
Countries covered under the deal include the United States of America, United Kingdom, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, and Australia. Airtel has already signed agreements with cash remittance companies MoneyGram and Mukuru.
Mobile money is an increasingly important part of Airtel’s business and currently accounts for 10.3% of its total revenue.
